Bleeding from the nose. Although usually
minor and easily controlled, the loss of
blood may occasionally be so rapid as to be
life-threatening, particularly in small
children. Most nosebleeds can be stopped by
simply squeezing the nose for a few minutes
with the head tilted back, but in exceptional
cases transfusion may be required and the
nose may need to be packed with ribbon gauze
or cauterized.
